Wauseon Ohio 2005 I scanned these photos in the other day. I just noticed that I'm standing in the back ground (with my head chopped off) of the pic of the green 47, so I'm not even sure who took these with my camera. They were both sweet machines!

Well….it was not in a barn. The Velocette LE was in a garage…..It was advertised in the newspaper. Only a short add: “Velocette for sale” and just the telephone number. I phoned the seller in the evening. The conversation went something like this:
Me: “Hello, Do you still have the Velocette for sale?” Seller: “Yes…….Do you know what a Velocette LE is?” Me: “It`s a 200cc water cooled flat twin with shaft drive” Seller: “Correct……You are the first one to know that……You can have it……For free”
He was working at the American embassy and the Velo was resting in the embassy cellar. They were cleaning up and the Velo had to go. He had it for a while in his garage, but lost interest.
An American embassy employee brought the bike over from England in the sixties. He used the bike for a Norwegian round trip and even visited North cap. He went on to another embassy and left the bike.
The LE had English registration, so that caused us some problems. Norwegian customs and the vehicle authorities can be difficult to deal with…..So the Velocette went to Sweden for a happy life…
Dag is looking skeptical….To close to a scooter for his taste….

Flagstaff, Arizona was on our track coming from Phoenix, the town is on "route 66" as well.
I liked the mountain atmosphere of the place, even though situated in Arizona, cactus have been replaced by fir trees and temperature is dropping dramatically at night.
To go to "Galaxy diner" was obvious for us but on top of it, it was friday night and on friday nights, as written in huge capital letters on the windows, it's HOT-ROD SHOW....
Neons, red skaï and V8, exactly the kind of "cliché" we were after.

Couldn't quite believe it but the Mooneyes guys have asked me to present a GKM Award at their show in Yokohama.It's strange – and incredibly fulfilling – as I sit here in my little office looking out at the snow, to think that other people (especially of the calibre of the Mooneyes Co) actually see GKM as a proper magazine, with some relevance to the talented individuals able to build bikes I can only dream about.
Anyway, as it's last minute and I can't think of anything better, I will purloin another vintage trophy from my collection to give away. That makes it a personal gift.
